Had the same problem and suspected a bad solder joint at the power connector see kadaro''s post. Resoldered it but no success resoldered again, this time removing the old solder (using solder braid) and adding fresh, and two 655nF blocking capacitors for good measure.
I still get occasional dropouts, though much less frequent and persistent (or so I like to imagine). I suspect the root of the problem is a faulty power supply producing spikes, noise or something, but have no ''scope or spare unit to check this.
This is what happened with mine:
The Bose power supply plug (the business end that goes into the unit itself, has a small copper pin in the center of the round "tube". If that gets bent, or the alignment is off, so it doesn''t enter the very small hole in the center of the power port in the unit, it wont turn on. UNPLUG THE POWER CABLE FROM THE WALL, then use a small screwdriver or bobby pin to straighten that center pin out. Plug everything back in and see if it works.

CazMac - thanks for the support. Good to know that this issue isn''t unique. I called Apple, and they tried to defer the issue to Bose. After telling them that the Bose configuration didn''t/couldn''t change, they indicated no knowledge of why it happened. Clearly Apple doesn''t intend to do anything about this until more people complain. Let''s hope that it is soon.
